Sp’akw’us Feather Park
Outdoor Active Play All Ages Playground

About

Sp’akw’us Feather Park is a beautiful oceanfront playground and public park in Squamish, set at the tip of the Oceanfront Peninsula with big views of Howe Sound, the Stawamus Chief, and the surrounding mountains. It is one of Squamish’s most exciting new family stops – part playground, part waterfront walk, part cultural learning space. The park opened in 2024 after years of planning and was created through work between the District of Squamish, Matthews West, and Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw. The 11-acre park includes a public beach, windsports beach, open lawn areas, crushed rock and paved pathways, a boardwalk, shoreline planting, intertidal habitat, art pieces, cultural gardens, slackline posts, and a playground designed in collaboration with Indigenous youth. The playground is what makes this park stand out for families. It was co-designed with Sḵwx̱wú7mesh youth from St’a7mes School and reflects Sḵwx̱wú7mesh stories, culture, and connection to the land. Kids can climb, explore, and play through a space that includes cultural storytelling elements rather than standard playground equipment alone. Parents will love the setting. This is an easy place to let kids burn energy while still feeling like you are having a real Squamish adventure. There is room to run, waterfront scenery, public art, pathways for a short walk, and plenty of space to slow down. It also works well as part of a bigger family day with nearby Squamish attractions like Shannon Falls, the Sea to Sky Gondola, downtown Squamish, and the Squamish waterfront. Why families will like it Kids get more than a regular playground. The play space has a strong sense of place, with Indigenous design, natural materials, and storytelling built into the experience. It feels imaginative, open-ended, and different from a typical neighbourhood park. The views are a big part of the visit. Families can see Howe Sound, the Chief, and the dramatic Squamish landscape from the park. It is a great spot for photos, snacks, and a slower outdoor break. There is room to move. The park includes open lawn areas, pathways, beach areas, and waterfront space, so kids are not limited to the playground. Tourism Squamish notes that the park includes a public beach, windsports beach, meadow and dune grass areas, paved and crushed-rock paths, and a boardwalk. It has cultural depth. The park includes art by local artists and cultural gardens, and the playground retells Sḵwx̱wú7mesh Úxwumixw stories of the land. This gives families a chance to talk with kids about where they are, whose land they are visiting, and why place names and stories matter. It is a strong stop on a Squamish day trip. You can pair it with a waterfall visit, a gondola ride, lunch downtown, a short waterfront walk, or another playground. It is especially useful for families driving the Sea to Sky Highway who want a scenic, low-effort stop. Good to know before you go Address: 37321 Galbraith Ave, Squamish, BC V8B 0Z7. Cost: This is a public park, so there is no regular admission fee. Parking: Parking may be limited, especially on sunny weekends, during events, or when watersports users are visiting. Tourism Squamish notes that temporary parking and other amenities are part of ongoing park additions, so check current signs when you arrive. Washrooms: Public washroom information appears to be changing as the park area develops. Tourism Squamish lists a washroom facility as one of the park additions under construction through 2025, while local family guides mention public washrooms. Families should check current conditions before relying on washrooms, especially with toddlers. Stroller access: The park has paved and crushed-rock pathways, which should work for many strollers, but some beach, lawn, and natural-surface areas may be harder with small wheels. A stroller or wagon can be useful, but expect mixed surfaces. Food: Bring snacks or a picnic. The park is close to downtown Squamish, so families can add a meal or treat before or after the visit. On-site food options may depend on events and nearby development, so do not count on food being available inside the park. Weather: Squamish can be windy, and Tourism Squamish specifically advises dressing warmly because wind can pick up suddenly. Bring layers, hats, sunscreen in summer, and rain gear on wet days. Safety: Keep a close eye on children near the waterfront, beach areas, boardwalk edges, and pathways shared with other park users. Tourism Squamish also asks visitors to be mindful of construction zones and follow posted signs. Dogs: Dogs should be kept leashed. Best time to visit: Dry days are best for playground time, picnics, and photos. Mornings may be calmer and easier for parking. Windy afternoons can be fun for watching watersports but may feel chilly with younger kids. Seasonal note: The park is outdoors and exposed, so spring, summer, and early fall are the easiest seasons for families. Winter visits can still be beautiful, but dress for wind, rain, and mud. Family highlights Destination playground: A unique play space designed with Indigenous youth and rooted in Sḵwx̱wú7mesh stories. Oceanfront setting: Big Squamish views without needing a hike. Open space: Lawns, pathways, beach areas, and room for kids to run. Cultural learning: Art, signage, gardens, and storytelling elements throughout the park. Easy add-on: Close to downtown Squamish, Shannon Falls, the Chief, and other Sea to Sky family stops. Good for mixed ages: Younger kids can enjoy the playground, while older kids can explore paths, open space, and shoreline views. Suggested visit length Plan for 45 minutes to 1.5 hours for a relaxed playground and waterfront stop. Stay longer if you bring a picnic, visit during an event, explore the paths, or pair the park with nearby attractions. Best for Best for: Families who want a scenic outdoor stop, a memorable playground, cultural learning, oceanfront views, and easy movement space for kids. Great age fit: Toddlers, preschoolers, and elementary-age kids. Older kids may enjoy the open space, waterfront setting, slackline posts, art, and views. Not ideal for: Families who need guaranteed indoor space, full shade, or confirmed washroom access without checking ahead.
