The Tokyo National Museum in Ueno Park is Japan's oldest and largest national museum, housing the world's largest collection of Japanese art, including national treasures spanning ancient pottery, samurai armour, paintings, and Buddhist sculpture. The sprawling complex comprises five buildings and regularly hosts major special exhibitions drawing on both the permanent collection and international loans. Open Tuesday–Sunday 09:30–17:00 (extended hours on select Fridays and Saturdays).
