About
The Port Hope Fish Ladder is a constructed fish passage facility on the Ganaraska River in Port Hope, Ontario, allowing Atlantic salmon and other migrating fish to bypass a weir on their upstream spawning journey. In autumn, the sight of salmon leaping up the ladder attracts hundreds of visitors; interpretive panels explain the salmon lifecycle and the conservation efforts that restored the run after decades of decline. The viewing area is publicly accessible and free during migration season (September–November).
